Owning Staffords is a huge part of our lives now but one bone of contention and some Stafford folk will never witness it if they are lucky and I don't think it just applies to staffords but mainly the Terrier breed in general as they are scrappy brave little sods and sometimes to clever for there own good....
Now I can come on here and paint a glorious picture of living with Alport dogs and all can seem to good to be true, I look in the whelpng box and see those 8 little bundles and think Jeeezz we have done it again as they are so lovely..
But I have debated over a period of days on how truthful should I be and for those that come on here and look do they want to read the nitty gritty of owning more than one Stafford....This has so got to me and turned me inside out as it always does I just cant come on here and feed the crap
So here's the thing our very regal Champion Sall and the Bull Dozer Nell have not been able to share the same room free for the past two years now by that I mean they can be in the same room but one has to be in a crate, thy can sit together like this and they can see each other between dog gates and no one would be any of the wiser but if you were to let them in together all hell literally breaks loose and in the space of 30/40 seconds you can have blood flying, screaming and a sight that even the bravest of folk would be distressed by and on the odd occasion this happens it takes me days to get over it as its usually my fault and I haven't checked behind me and in walks one behind you into the space of the other and in the few seconds it takes for you say SHIT they have banged together
Why did it start well the first time was over a ball and the 2nd time it was over a stick and the fact there are only weeks between them age wise and you just put a male dog in between that and you have the ranking for top bitch and that's it....Now its my opinion that is more likely to happen with house kept dogs and as we don't do kennels the husbandry is very different to dogs kept kenneled, plus kennel dogs adjust to separation from there masters....Its a real hard one to define and I have so many pictures of when they all ran together and life was bliss
Well last Saturday they got together in the kitchen, only lasted a minute or two and we keep a breaking stick at hand both were injured not enough to warrant a visit to the vets, mainly puncture wounds but not an ideal situation with one of them nursing puppies..But as always I cleaned thoroughly and dressed with Betedene iodene which is good stuff both were fine and back to normal in a couple of days, not so normal for me though as it was my fault and after two years and yes it goes on with other Stafford folk and they just cope and Fox Terrier breeders keep the scarred ones hidden away....And its a case of how can you admit this to the world well I can because I love these bloody dogs regardless and even though I feel its like biting the hand that feeds them I know they are just being dogs but Stafford dogs do far more damage....They are both are good girls and have never gone for any other dog, they have dogs join them out on walks and they are so sweet you wouldn't have a clue but the time has come as its not about how I feel its about them and I don't want them living like this any more on the whole it works ok and we all act responsibly around the house it has become a way of life to make sure dog gates are shut and one in a crate if the other needs to come into the same room
So Sall will be rehomed as she still has something to offer she can still be shown and she can still have a litter, Poor Nell on the other hand is past her sell by date and will now retire I may get her out for some vet classes in the future and she is worth a great deal to us but her worth to anyone else would be questionable.....I love both of them and I will cry my eyes out as my Princess will leave but to go onto a stress free life is far more important than how I feel
Not easy for me to write all this but I don't want to give the bull shit on how perfect it is when it isnt
